How it works

  1. Enter the number of implantsType the figure from your quote into “Number of implants”. If your quote already shows totals for each item, tick “The amounts on my quote are already totals”.
  2. Copy the items from your quoteUnder “Amounts from your quote”, fill in the lines you see, such as “Consultation, examination and scans (e.g. CBCT)”, “Implant including placement (surgery)”, “Abutment” and “Crown on the implant”. Leave empty any item that is not on your quote.
  3. Add cover and a reserveIf a dental plan or insurer has confirmed a payment, enter it in “Amount your dental plan or insurer pays (optional)” or “Insurance refund in % (optional)”. Use “Contingency reserve in % (optional)” for a buffer of your choice.
  4. CalculateClick “Calculate costs”. You see a breakdown of your quote, your own share and the budget including your reserve. You can compare the result with a second quote by running it again.

What makes up the dental implant cost in the UK

A dental implant is a small titanium screw placed in the jawbone. It replaces the root of a missing tooth and can support a crown, a bridge or a denture. Because of this, the dental implant cost in the UK is rarely one single figure. A quote usually lists several stages: the consultation and scans, the implant surgery, the connecting part called the abutment, and the crown on top. Some plans also include extractions, bone grafting, a temporary tooth or sedation.

This calculator does not use average prices. Prices vary between practices, and the General Dental Council says there are no set limits on what practices can charge for private dental treatment. Instead, you type in the amounts from your own written quote. The tool then adds them up, shows which items make up the biggest share and works out your own share after any cover. That makes it easier to compare two quotes line by line, rather than comparing two headline totals that may include different things.

Are dental implants available on the NHS?

According to the NHS, implants are usually only available privately. In rare cases they are available on the NHS for people who cannot wear dentures for certain reasons, for example after mouth cancer or an accident. NHS dentistry covers the care your dentist judges clinically necessary. If you are unsure whether your situation could qualify, ask your dentist. They can explain which options exist on the NHS, such as bridges or dentures in Band 3, and which would be private.

If you mix NHS and private care, your dentist has to give you a treatment plan. The NHS says your dentist must make clear which treatments can be provided on the NHS and which can only be provided privately, and the costs of each. Keep that plan. It is the best basis for this calculator, because every line on it can be entered as one item. If anything on the plan is unclear, ask the practice before you agree to treatment.

  • Ask for a written, itemised quote after an examination
  • Check whether reviews, X-rays and the final crown are included
  • Ask what happens and who pays if a follow-up is needed

Comparing a UK quote with a quote from Turkey

Many people who read this site are weighing up treatment at home against treatment in Turkey. You can run this calculator once for each quote. Make sure both include the same stages, because implant treatment usually happens in steps. The Oral Health Foundation says healing after placement usually takes around four months before the final crown, bridge or denture is attached. A plan abroad may therefore need more than one trip, and travel costs are not part of a dental quote.

The General Dental Council advises that you are always assessed by a qualified dentist before being given a treatment plan and cost estimate. It also suggests asking about complaints systems, guarantees and aftercare, and says you do not have to commit on the same day. The UK government advises you to discuss plans with your UK dentist before going ahead. Ask your dentist which questions matter for your own mouth before you compare prices.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a dental implant cost in the UK?

There is no fixed price. The General Dental Council says there are no set limits on what practices charge for private dental treatment, so costs depend on the practice and on your treatment plan. The most reliable figure is a written, itemised quote after an examination. Enter its lines in this calculator to see the total, your own share and a budget with a reserve.

Can I get dental implants on the NHS?

Usually not. The NHS says implants are usually only available privately. In rare cases they are offered on the NHS for patients who cannot wear dentures for certain reasons, such as after mouth cancer or an accident. Ask your dentist whether your situation could qualify and which NHS alternatives, such as bridges or dentures, may be possible for you.

What is included in a tooth implant cost?

A quote may include the consultation and scans, extractions, bone grafting or a sinus lift, the implant and its placement, the abutment, the crown, a temporary tooth and sedation. Not every plan needs every item. That is why the calculator has a separate field for each line, and you leave empty whatever is not on your quote.

Why do two implant quotes look so different?

Quotes often include different things. One may include scans, a temporary tooth and reviews, while another lists only the implant and crown. Some show a price per tooth, others a total. Enter both quotes separately in the calculator, item by item, and tick “The amounts on my quote are already totals” where needed, so you compare like with like.

How long does implant treatment take?

It usually happens in stages: consultation, placement, healing and then attaching the crown, bridge or denture. The Oral Health Foundation says healing usually takes around four months. In some cases the replacement tooth can be fitted the same day, and your implant dentist will tell you whether that is suitable. Your own timeline depends on your treatment plan.

Does dental insurance pay for implants?

That depends entirely on your policy or dental plan. Some pay a fixed amount, others a percentage, and many have limits or exclusions. Check your policy wording and ask your insurer for written confirmation before treatment. You can then enter a fixed amount in “Amount your dental plan or insurer pays (optional)” or a percentage in “Insurance refund in % (optional)”.

What is the contingency reserve for?

Treatment plans can change, for example if extra scans, a review or another temporary tooth is needed. The field “Contingency reserve in % (optional)” lets you add a buffer of your own choice on top of your share. It is not a prediction of extra costs. Ask your dentist which items might be added and how they would be charged.

How long do dental implants last?

The Oral Health Foundation says that with good care implants can last many years, but there is no lifetime guarantee. Plaque around an implant can cause peri-implantitis, which may lead to the implant loosening. Brush twice a day, clean around the implant daily and keep regular check-ups. Ask your dentist what guarantee and aftercare are included in your quote.

Should I get implants in Turkey or the UK?

That is a personal decision, and this site cannot make it for you. The UK government advises discussing plans with your UK dentist first and doing your own research, because private companies have a financial interest in arranging treatment abroad. Compare full quotes, aftercare, guarantees and the number of trips. Our calculators help with the numbers, not with the clinical choice.
